Gray•Duffy, LLP Protects Client from Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Richard M. Williams of Gray•Duffy’s Redwood City office protected the firm’s client G&K Management, Inc., from a wrongful death lawsuit arising out of the death of a tenant in a stairwell at a property owned by the client in Vallejo, California.

El Portal Gardens By the firm’s proactive and immediate involvement in this matter, a wrongful death lawsuit was avoided. On August 9, 2013, a tenant in a residential apartment facility managed by Gray•Duffy’s client G&K Management Services, Inc. was found dead in a second floor stairwell. Forensic evidence appeared to indicate that the tenant had fallen in the stairwell and sustained a fatal head injury. Richard M. Williams of Gray•Duffy was at the scene of the accident the day following the death and a full investigation was conducted, including interviews of building managers, custodians and tenants. The deceased’s family was also contacted and made privy to the investigation. In large part due to the immediate and transparent investigation by the firm and G&K Management employees, the tenant’s family decided not to pursue a wrongful death action against the apartment complex or its owners or managers.
